SILVER–SANDWICH-LOTTERY by James Brown, 2023. Acrylic, screen print, neon, aerosol canvas — 2600 x 1500
James’ natural passion for visual communication, coupled with his uniquely humorous anti-establishment outlook, has charged the last 20 years of his place in the design and art world. From founding creative studios to re- inventing restaurants, James’ art has formed into islands of wonder across the globe.
Just as bergs of hard ice melt into liquid oceans, Brown’s art occupies a unique amorphous space between art and design. He seeks to portray the magic of a lost world through a multiplicity of materials, melding them together into a dynamic exchange of juxtaposing images. Employing three complementary elements; visual art, design and “art-chitecture”. James’ work transcends mainstream genres and art forms. Constantly evolving and forever reinventing, driven by re-imagining the societal norm. Prolific, alluring and provocative.
James has exhibited his work at Palais de Tokyo (Paris), SFMoMA (San Francisco), The Barbican (London), Centro Cultural el Rule (Mexico City), Museu da Lingua Portuguesa (Sao Paulo). He was the youngest person in the world to be accepted as a member of A.G.I. (Alliance Graphique Internationale) and ranked in Gourmet Traveller’s top 50 most influential creatives in Australia.
