Details

Genot Stool – Low (Charred American White Oak) is the debut product group by local artisan maker, Dane Sampson of Genot Furniture. Each piece being a testament to Danes 20+ years mastering his craft, initially completing his apprenticeship as an antique furniture restorer and high-end bespoke furniture maker, to then having the rare opportunity to be part of the team who finished building the St.Johns Cathedral in Brisbane, Queensland. Danes amalgamation of artisanal experience and a passion for timber colour, structure and the workability of organic materials pushed Dane to embark on his own Journey, starting his own studio practice, Genot Furniture, towards the start of 2022. Stool G, or the “Genot Stool” marks Danes next chapter – a physical reflection of his ability as a master craftsmen and his intention to create contemporary design with a story.

Each stool is hand turned and finished straight off the tool with very minimal sanding required. This results in an incredibly flat, high resolution timber grain pattern only achievable with a certain knowledge for sharpening and blade care. The tops are a join-free single block, supported by stepped round tenon legs. For finishing, this particular model is charred using a naked flame, then sealed using a combination of oil and wax.

The Genot Stool is currently available in Charred American White Oak and via seperate listings in American White Oak and Wenge. Walnut and an upholstered version also available by request. Lead time by quote, based on volume.
